Legitimus Maritis is certainly not a Dutch name. But a Russian troll uses it while posing as a Dutch investigator who's investigating the MH17 stories. He or she has posted a series of responses to our Facebook post of April 29, 2019. It refers to an article on our website of the same date.
Misinformation on MH17
Most of the Russian troll’s posts contain videos and present Russian misinformation and fake news. Interestingly, Facebook appears to have censored or blocked some of the videos. This prevents our readers from having a full view of how the Russian misinformation campaign works.
Several readers asked us about it and also about Russia’s involvement. Obviously, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has found evidence that high Russian officials are involved in the deployment of the BUK missile that downed flight MH17/KL4103.
Witnesses can contact the JIT to provide even more information and evidence. The JIT will handle their information with ultimate care. Moreover, JIT investigators are available to help witnesses in several languages including Russian and Ukrainian.
The list of opponents of the Russian regime killed by order of the Russian rulers is long. Thus, witnesses will be very concerned about their safety. Therefore, the JIT has provided information on witness safety and protection (see Witness Safety & Protection). A related article (“It was a Buk from Russia”) lists some well-known critics of the Putin clan who have been killed until the time of writing (September 29, 2016).
The JIT has already sufficient evidence of 4 suspects’ involvement in the downing of flight MH17. Their names are Igor Vsevolodovich Girkin, Sergey Nikolayevich Dubinskiy, Oleg Yuldashevich Pulatov and Leonid Volodymyrovych Kharchenko. In March 2020 the JIT will start prosecuting them.
The JIT is now eying 2 top confidants of the Russian ruler Vladimir Putin. First, defense secretary Sergey Shoygu, who is considered a potential successor of Putin. Second, Aleksandr Bortnikov, director of the Russian security service FSB. Ukrainian separatists mention their names explicitly in intercepted phone calls. There is enough proof that key separatists in eastern Ukraine were directed from Russia.
It illustrates that the JIT doesn’t fall for the Russian propaganda that “volunteers” are helping Ukrainian separatists fighting in eastern Ukraine. In reality the Russian army is waging a war in that area. Those who are prepared to believe that a BUK missile could be launched by volunteers rather than skilled soldiers are extremely naive.
Vladimir Putin has officially declared military deaths in “peacetime” a state secret. Therefore, they are buried in Russia anonymously. This should prevent that the Russian population will know that Russia is waging a war in Ukraine. But quite a few of the mothers found their fallen sons’ graves after a long search anyway. It is sad that the soviet mentality is still alive in Russia and leads to such sad occurrences.
