Hilton has announced how they are going to deal with the status of members of its loyalty program, Hilton Honors. It offers very good news for members whose 2019 status is scheduled to be downgraded in 2020. The downgrade will not come into effect. Rather, their 2019 membership status will be extended through March 31, 2021, whether it’s Diamond, Gold or Silver.
Hilton also announces a status extension for 2020. Your 2020 status will be extended through March 31, 2022. For members whose status was scheduled to be downgraded in 2020 this is very good news. First, because the downgrade will not come into effect. Second, they will keep their current status through March 31, 2022. Thus, they get an extension of their status for the next 24 months.
Expiration date of Weekend Night Rewards
In addition, Hilton announces an extension of Weekend Night Rewards earned on eligible Hilton credit cards. This refers to the Hilton Surpass Card, the Hilton Business Card and the Hilton Aspire Card. As a result, the expiration date of all unexpired Weekend Night Rewards and all new ones issued until August 30, 2020, has been extended through August 31, 2021.
Free cancelation of non-cancelable reservations
But there is more. All existing reservations that are scheduled for arrival before July 1, 2020 can be changed or cancelled at no charge. You must cancel up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival day. This even applies to non-cancelable (“Advanced Purchase”) reservations.
It also applies to new reservations booked between today and June 30, 2020 for any future arrival date. Thus, those reservations can also be canceled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival day.
Hilton shows again it is more customer-friendly than Marriott. This hotel chain hasn’t made a similar announcement, but it may follow Hilton soon.
